Retaining Walls in Zimbabwe.
Structural retaining solutions from decorative garden walls to engineered slope stabilisation for estates and commercial developments.
- ◆Stone-clad, gabion, concrete
- ◆Engineer-certified designs
- ◆Drainage integrated
- ◆Terraced systems
The Signature approach.
Retaining walls are structural, not decorative — even when they carry a decorative cladding. Signature designs and builds engineered retaining walls from decorative garden terracing all the way to slope-stabilising structural walls for estates and commercial developments.
For anything over 1.5m or supporting active surcharge (vehicular, adjacent structures), we work with a partner structural engineer who sizes the wall, specifies reinforcement, and signs the drawings. The wall is then built to the certificate — no verbal changes, no improvised substitutions.
Materials range from dry-stack stone for garden features, through gabion walls for slope stabilisation, precast segmental blocks for terracing, up to fully reinforced in-situ concrete with stone or masonry cladding for high loads and long spans.
Drainage is engineered into every wall we build. Weep holes, agricultural drains, waterproof membranes and geotextiles are placed as part of the wall build-up, not as an afterthought. Retaining walls that fail almost always fail because water was left to find its own way.
Built to a spec, not to a price.
Engineered from the ground up
Correct excavation, G5 sub-base, geotextile where soils are reactive. What's underneath decides what lasts.
Ten-year workmanship warranty
Residential paving and driveways carry a written 10-year warranty against settlement and joint failure.
Tender-compliant
BOQ-priced returns for government, municipal and estate tenders — engineer-signed drawings where required.
Drainage designed, not improvised
Channel drains, sub-soil drainage, permeable options — water is engineered out of every surface we build.
Material range
Clay, concrete, natural stone, granite setts, cobble — sourced through vetted suppliers with SANS compliance.
In-house crews
Directly employed foremen and pavers, not day-labour teams. Consistency of workmanship on every project.
From consult to handover.
Site survey & engineering
We measure levels, take core samples where required, and confirm loading — vehicular, pedestrian or industrial. Structural work starts with structural information.
Design & specification
Layout drawings, material selection, sub-base build-up, drainage strategy and edge detailing. Engineer-signed where the tender or municipality requires it.
Excavation & sub-base
Correct depth of excavation, G5/G7 crushed stone in compacted layers, membranes where soils are reactive. Never a shortcut here.
Laying & jointing
Blocks, cobble, stone or slabs laid to string lines, cut to detail around obstacles, then joint-filled with kiln-dried sand or mortar as spec.
Drainage & edge restraint
Concrete haunching, channel drains, permeable options and stormwater tie-ins as designed. Water is engineered out of the surface.
Handover & warranty
Full cleaning, snag walk with the client, warranty document and drawings archive. Ten-year workmanship warranty on residential work.
What we work with.
Materials are specified for service life, not initial capital cost. Every quote lists brands, grades and quantities so you can see exactly what your project is built from.
Clay & concrete pavers
SANS-compliant clay pavers, concrete interlock and cobble blocks in 50mm and 80mm thicknesses for pedestrian to heavy-duty applications.
Natural stone
Sandstone flags, granite setts and slate paddle stone — cut and calibrated for a consistent laying face.
Aggregates & sub-base
G5 and G7 crushed stone, river sand for bedding, kiln-dried joint sand and non-woven geotextile where sub-grades are reactive.
Retaining materials
Gabion stone and mesh, dry-stack stone, precast segmental blocks, and in-situ reinforced concrete for structural retaining walls.
Asphalt & binders
Hot-mix asphalt to Ministry of Transport specification, prime coat, tack coat and cold-mix patch compounds for maintenance.
Drainage components
Concrete channel drains, HDPE sub-soil drains, gully pots and cast-iron access covers to the specification the site loading calls for.
The difference a spec makes.
A selection of transformation projects across Zimbabwe — from tired estate frontages to full showroom rebuilds.

Honest ranges, not guesses.
Hardscape pricing is driven mostly by what happens under the surface. Two identical-looking driveways can cost double one another if the sub-grade differs. We quote line by line after a proper survey.
Residential paved driveway (up to 100m²)
Excavation, G5 base, 60–80mm interlock, edge restraint and drainage.
Estate roads & forecourts (100–1,000m²)
Depending on paver spec, sub-base depth and drainage complexity.
Asphalt surfacing (per m²)
Depending on total area, layer thickness, prime/tack requirement and haul distance.
Retaining walls (per m²)
Dry-stack up to engineered reinforced concrete with drainage and cladding.
Cost factors
- ◆Sub-grade condition — CBR, moisture and required excavation depth
- ◆Material tier: standard interlock vs. imported natural stone
- ◆Drainage integration and stormwater tie-ins
- ◆Access for plant and delivery trucks
- ◆Vehicular loading class (residential, commercial, industrial)
For tenders and government work we submit BOQ-priced returns compliant with the issuing authority's format. For residential clients we provide a plain-English fixed-price letter with the drawings attached.
Built to last, cared for to prove it.
First 6 months
Watch for settlement at edges and around service covers, top up jointing sand after the first heavy rains, and reseal asphalt hairline cracks early.
Annual clean
High-pressure clean, weed control in joints, top up kiln-dried joint sand and re-seal decorative surfaces where a sealer was originally specified.
5–7 year cycle
Asphalt sealcoat renewal, remedial jointing on paving, and inspection of edge restraint integrity — small work now prevents structural failure later.
Maintenance retainer
Signature Care Hardscape — quarterly inspection, joint top-up, pressure clean and asphalt sealcoat included in a fixed annual fee.
Frequently asked.
Where in Zimbabwe do you operate?
+
Nationwide, from our offices in Harare, Bulawayo and Gweru. We travel to Mutare, Victoria Falls, Kariba, Masvingo, Hwange, Beitbridge and every point in between.
How do I get a fixed-price quote?
+
WhatsApp us, call, or complete the quote form. A specification lead responds within one working day and books a site visit where required.
What warranty do you offer?
+
Every Signature installation carries a written workmanship warranty. Terms vary by discipline — ten years on residential paving, ten years on resin systems, structural warranties on outdoor structures.
Do you take on tender and BOQ work?
+
Yes. We submit BOQ-priced returns for government, municipal, estate and corporate tenders across every service line.
Can we phase the work over time?
+
Absolutely. Large projects are often phased over financial years or seasons. We plan the sequence so early phases don't become obstacles to later ones.
Do you provide engineer-signed drawings?
+
Yes — for retaining walls, estate roads and any structural element that municipal or estate compliance requires.
